Three Key Learning Points
Where the head goes, the body follows.
Soft hands and soft feet let a swimmer feel the water.
If they’re not breathing, they can’t swim.
Some of the most valuable lessons I’ve ever learnt about coaching didn’t come from working with Olympians.
They came from Learn to Swim.
I’ve had the great fortune to work with some outstanding Learn to Swim teachers; Carol Gathercole, Ursula Carlile and a few others.
I’ve run my own Learn to Swim program and more recently I was tied up with one of the largest Learn to Swim program deliverers in Australia.
And I’ll tell you something: what I learnt teaching little kids and beginners to swim has shaped my understanding of swimming more than anything else.
Today I want to share five of those lessons with you.
I call them the Five Hs: Head. Hips. Hands. Heels. Huff.
(I couldn’t come up with a better word for breathing than “huff”; so huff it is).
Let’s go through them.
